Artist: Phua Juan Yong @phuajuanyong
Artist Bio: Phua Juan Yong is an artist whose primary focus is image-making through 3D software. In recent years, his work has centred around pursuing the qualities of traditional painting through digital means.
That fascination has since evolved into an exploration of the broader relationship between
the physical and the digital, be it in presentation, experience or consumption. Phua first sculpts the elements in VR, then paints over them digitally, before lighting and composing the image on 3D software. The works are made digitally and then translated using different methods such as silkscreens or acrylic on digital archival print.
His works span across projection mapping on National Gallery to featured works on Nowness Asia Picks, Men’s Folio and Singapore Artweek.
Artwork Description: Born by a mother of alchemy, Morphling was left alone and raised in the deep forest, with only nature and animals as her companion. Books of alchemy left behind by her late mother, taught her ways to be in harmony with the animals around her. She learns to merge animals together and sometimes with herself, bending nature by using alchemy. Rumour spread across the land of mythical creatures commonly known as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster but only a few know who manifests such beings. She hones this power and protects the balance of humankind and nature.
