Artist Bio: Bettina's works revolve around notions of escapism, childhood, nostalgia and dreams, as well as fantastical and mythological narratives, which have been reimagined through pop-culture and her own experiences. She is especially fond of the Magical Girl genre.
Artwork Description: There once lived a fairy who collected the lost dreams of children, scattered through the galaxy as stars. She transformed them into konpeito candy, and left them under children’s pillows.
These dreams were not regular dreams; dreams of becoming a dragon, a princess or fairy, having a candy covered palace or being friends with a giant. The dreams are only lost when confronted by reality, like being told they’re ‘impossible'. When the children wake the next day to find the candy, they’ll be instructed to eat it before their next sleep. As they eat the candy, they enter a magical world where all their impossible dreams are real.
The dream fairy works together with her kirin which transports her through the skies, and her rabbit wand, which transforms into a real one, collecting these stars spreaders in the galaxy for her.
